Wendy C. Goldberg
Wendy C. Goldberg is in her fifth season as Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference (NPC) at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center where she has developed over 40 projects for the stage. Wendy is the first woman to lead the NPC in its 45 years. Under her leadership, plays from the past four summers have won national awards and have moved directly into significant world-premiere productions in New York and to theaters across the country. In the 2007-2008 theatrical season, the O'Neill celebrated nine world-premiere productions at theaters including Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage, Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf and The Magic. In the 2008-2009 season Wendy directed Julia Cho's Durango for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Rebecca Gilman's The Crowd You're In With at Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Both projects were originally developed at the O'Neill. Wendy will collaborate with Rebecca Gilman again this upcoming season, directing her play Dollhouse for The Guthrie. Other recent directing credits include: Off-Broadway: world premiere of Deathbed (Mc-Ginn/Cazale). Regional: Master Class (Paper Mill Playhouse), Doubt (Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park/ Actors Theater of Louisville), Third, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball, The Clean House, Living Out (Denver Center), the world premiere of False Creeds (Alliance Theatre), The Chosen (Actors Theatre of Louisville), The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, Proof, Book of Days, On the Jump and the revival of K2 for Arena Stage in Washington, DC. Wendy has directed in every major new play development program in the United States. For five seasons Wendy served as the Associate Artistic Director at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where she led downstairs in the Old Vat Room, Arena's artistic initiative dedicated to the development of new American plays, since its inception. Wendy is the Creative Advisor for Rock of Ages, nominated for Five Tony Awards and currently playing on Broadway. Her work has been highlighted in Variety, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and American Theater Magazine, where she was described as Òone of the most promising theatre artists working todayÓ. Wendy proudly sits on the Executive Board of the Society Directors and Choreographers Society and has guest lectured in graduate Directing, Playwriting and Management Programs at Brown University, UC-San Diego, The Iowa Writers Workshop, Columbia, and The Yale School of Drama. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan where she studied comparative literature and theater, and holds an MFA in Directing from UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. | ||
